Wizard’s New Computerized Mat Cutter
MUKILTEO, Washington -- Wizard International, Inc. recently announced the release of its next-generation Wizard Computerized Mat Cutter, hosting a score of new features recommended by Brian Wolf, CPF, GCF, and requested from its 3,500 current Wizard™ users.
The new Wizard CMC boasts an array of high-tech materials and engineering innovations aimed to increase precision, reliability and ease of use. The addition of a direct drive cutting head and steel reinforced drive belts insure precise tracking. The new gantry design provides convenient central housing for all electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical assembly. A new drop-in blade cartridge simplifies blade changes. For quick blade depth adjustments a large infinitely variable dial was added to the new head assembly. Adjusting the blade depth from cutting the thinnest v-groove to 8-ply and everything in between, is as simple as twisting the dial.
“CMC’s are a near necessity in today’s frame shops. Framers will no doubt be impressed with what the new machine can do. With so much of a shop’s reputation built on craftsmanship and design the new Wizard will be a must,” said Brian Wolf, Wizard’s Director of Standards and Training.
To refine the CMC’s precision automation and noise reduction, Wizard engineers used techniques and materials pioneered in the aviation industry. The Wizard’s quieter operation is accomplished through the use of micro stepping motors and other high-tech materials, such as 25% thicker aluminum clad polypropylene honeycomb core cutting board. These materials are commonly used by aircraft manufactures as a structural element to reduce vibration and noise. Micro stepping high torque motors increase linear movement precision. Wizard MatDesigner™ Software 5.0 now sends 400% more steps or commands per mat design to the motors, which dramatically increases accuracy and reduces noise by softening the movement of each step.
“Wizard’s CMC has always been a turnkey system. The new design has fewer moving parts allowing for tighter tracking and streamline mechanics,” said Bill Wridge, Wizard co-owner and Lead CMC Design Engineer.
What does this next generation CMC mean for framers? Framers expect CMC’s to be precise, reliable and affordable. With its reliable precision driven design and enhanced software features, the new Wizard is state-of-the-art but still affordable. Wizard will continue to offer the industry’s only month-to-month CMC rental starting at $245 per month. The new Wizard CMC will also be available for purchase for $15,995.
The first public introduction of the new Wizard in the United States will be at the WCAF Show in Las Vegas on January 16th, 2003. The new Wizard will also be on display at the Décor Expo Orlando, January 18-20.
Wizard International continues to be an innovative force in the picture framing industry. With over 3,500 machines placed worldwide, there are more Wizard CMC’s in use than all other manufacturers CMC’s combined.
