Wizard Awards 4th Annual Mat Cutting Contest Winners
MUKILTEO, Washington -- Winners of the 4th Annual Wizard Mat Cutting Contest were announced during Wizard’s Hawaiian theme day at the Atlanta Décor Show on Saturday, September 21, 2002.

The grand prize winning entry is “Webbed Spiderman”, a limited edition cinema poster with a raised asymmetrical web mat design, submitted by Justin Grow, of Frames & Framers in Lawrenceville, NJ.

First place in the mat art category was awarded to “A Wizard’s Dream”, a 40” by 60” multiple layer VCADD design of a wizard’s magical battle with a fierce fire-breathing dragon, submitted by Jason Mayers, of The Art Works in Henderson, Nev. Michael Derr, CPF, of Frame-N-Art in Albuquerque, N.M., won second prize for his “Southwest Visionary” icon piece.

”Mickey Mouse Vacation Map”, a three layer mat collage of personal vacation photos by Sara E. Minarik, of Lakeside Gallery FastFrame in Reston, Va., won first place in the framed art category. Second place was awarded to “Webbed Spiderman Comic Book” by Patrick Lord, of Corners, Inc., in Saugus, Mass.

In honor of the location where the idea of Wizard International was conceived, Grow was awarded a seven day trip for two to Hawaii for his grand prize entry. First place winners received a $500 Wizard credit and a $500 gift certificate to Crescent Cardboard. Second place winners were presented with a Fuji FinePix digital camera. All finalists will also receive a 1-year subscription to Picture Framing Magazine, compliments of PFM.

”This year’s entries are by far the most creative and demonstrative of the technological advancements of the CMC and its capabilities. They are so eye-catching that tradeshow patrons asked if they could purchase them right off our booth walls in Atlanta” said Bill Wridge, co-owner of Wizard International.

Wizard International began selling computerized mat cutters to custom framers in 1994. An innovative force in the picture framing industry, Wizard continues to manufacture the leading computerized mat cutter, placing over 3,000 machines worldwide.
